Competition Obedience Classes
Conformation Run-Throughs Discontinued after August 27
6 week class for $120
For puppies 3-5 months old on the first night of class.
Our Puppy Kindergarten class will start your puppy on the path to be a great lifelong companion! Our group class situation provides essential socialization and exposure to new people and dogs that will build your puppy's confidence in new situations. We use treats and praise to teach basic obedience commands like Sit, Down, Stay, and Come. We help you teach your puppy how to keep four feet on the floor, stay quiet when asked, and walk nicely on a leash. We also discuss important ownership issues like housetraining, crate training, maintaining a healthy weight, trimming toe nails, appropriate exercise, and car safety. We are here to help you mold your puppy into a wonderful family companion.
Your puppy must have had at least two sets of their DHPP (Distemper/Parvovirus) vaccinations approximately 1 week prior to the first week of class.
This class meets at the same time each week for 6 weeks. Sign up online or call us at (952)895-6115 to sign up and pay over the phone. Payment in full is required to complete registration.
8 week class for $140
For dogs 5 months - 12 years
Our Beginning Obedience class is a great class to start with, or to continue your dog's training after Puppy Kindergarten. Our group class situation provides essential socialization and exposure to new people and dogs. We work to teach and develop a reliable response to basic obedience commands like Sit, Down, Stay with distractions, Come, and Heel on a loose leash. We also help you teach your dog how to keep four feet on the floor, and stay quiet when asked. The group class situation is helpful for practicing reliable responses in a busy public environment.
NOTE: This is not a class for dogs with serious aggression issues. If your dog continually barks or lunges at other dogs, please contact us prior to signing up online. We might suggest a private lesson prior to attending a group class. We are here to help you and your dog succeed!
Your dog must be up to date on their DHPP (Distemper/Parvovirus) and Rabies vaccinations prior to the first week of class.
This class meets at the same time each week for 8 weeks. Sign up online or call us at (952)895-6115 to sign up and pay over the phone. Payment in full is required to complete registration.
Prerequisite: Requires completion of a Tails Up Beginning Obedience class or prior Tails Up approval for transfer from another program.
Our Intermediate Obedience class further refines the skills taught in Beginning Obedience, working to make your dog increasingly reliable despite higher levels of distraction. We increase the challenge of the Come command by adding distance and more distractions, in addition to teaching your dog to Come over a low jump. We challenge the Heel command by teaching the dog to focus while heeling very closely to other people and dogs in the Figure 8 exercise. We practice more reliability for the Stay command by adding time, distance, and more distractions.
Prerequisite: Dogs must have completed at least a Puppy Kindergarten or Beginning Obedience class before registering for the Tricks class.
Your dog can be the star of the show and the center of the party after learning some fun tricks! We'll teach you how to teach your dog 8-12 tricks (for example, shake, roll-over, peek-a-boo, beg) and will also help you with any special ideas you may have! The last week of the class will include a certification test for the American Kennel Club Novice Trick Dog (TKN) title.
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Preparatory Class
Prerequisite: Requires completion of a Tails Up Intermediate Obedience class or prior Tails Up approval for transfer from another program.
This two-week class will prepare you and your dog to take the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification test. The class will meet for two weeks, with the test on the third week.
Therapy Dog Certification
Prerequisite: Due to high demand, registration is limited to current Tails Up students whose dogs already have their AKC Canine Good Citizen certification.
This two-week class prepares dogs and handlers to take a certification test to become an offical Therapy Dog through the Pet Partners organization. The class will meet for two weeks, with the test on the third week. We offer this class on a limited quarterly basis, and it is limited to just 5 students per class to allow for the maximum in personal attention.Top of Page
Prerequisite: Tails Up Intermediate Obedience, or prior approval.
Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a course of designated stations where the team performs a simple to advanced obedience exercise, depending on level. Each of these stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. For more information, see the AKC page on Rally Obedience.
