Puppy Kindergarten

This six-week class is for puppies from 12 weeks to less than 6 months old.  We will use treats & praise to help you mold your puppy into a wonderful family companion by working on basic obedience commands like Sit, Down, Come, Stay, and walking on a leash. We will also work on establishing control with good manners like not biting or jumping on people, in addition to providing essential socialization to build your puppy's confidence in new situations. Puppies must have had at least two sets of vaccinations before beginning this class.

Puppy Jumpstart

Are our Puppy Kindergarten classes full, but you need help NOW? Or is your puppy too young to begin Puppy Kindergarten, but you have questions or issues that need immediate attention? Are you having trouble housebreaking or crate training your new puppy?

The Puppy Jumpstart program includes two individual 30-minute sessions with a Tails Up trainer for you & your new puppy. Training is customized to meet your needs, but typically includes advice on housebreaking, crate training, barking, biting, and more!

Beginning Obedience

This eight-week class is for dogs 6 months and older, with or without previous training.  This is an essential class in good basic manners for your dog. We will help you mold your dog into a wonderful family companion by working to develop an enthusiastic yet reliable response to basic obedience commands like Sit, Down, Come, Stay (with high distraction), and heeling on a loose leash. We will also work on establishing control with good manners like not barking, biting, or jumping on people.

Intermediate Obedience

This class meets for eight weeks and further refines the beginning obedience exercises and includes off-leash heeling. We work on heeling very closely to other people & dogs, and increasing distance and distractions on the recall and say exercises. Requires completion of Beginning Obedience or instructor approval.

Combination Intermediate Obedience & CGC Class

This class further refines the beginning obedience exercises, includes off-leash heeling, and also reviews the exercises included in the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification test.  The class runs for 7 weeks, and the CGC test is given on the 8th week.  Requires completion of Beginning Obedience or instructor approval.

Novice Obedience

This class prepares and polishes dogs and handlers for a Companion Dog (CD) title. Ongoing schedule.

Competition Novice Obedience

This class is for dogs and handlers who have been through our Attention & Drive classes, and are now preparing to compete for their Companion Dog (CD) title. Instructor permission required. Ongoing schedule.

Novice Preparatory Class

This class is for people who have been attending the Novice class and are planning to compete soon.  This class covers things you need to know before setting foot in the competition ring, and will provide personal attention to help each dog and handler team polish their performance.

Beginning Open Class

This class covers the basics of how to get your dog started with the open exercises including retrieving, jumping, and out-of-sight stays.  This class is for dogs who need to learn the basics of the open exercises before advancing to the regular open obedience class.

Open Obedience

This class covers the open exercises including retrieving, jumping and out-of-sight stays to prepare dog and handler for their Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) title. Ongoing schedule.

Beginning Utility Class

Utility Obedience

This class covers the most advanced obedience exercises including hand signals, scent articles, directed retrieving, moving stand and directed jumping. This prepares dogs and handlers for their Utility Dog (UD) title. On-going schedule.

Obedience Run-Throughs  Discontinued

Ongoing schedule, we will have one ring available for competition obedience run-throughs.
Obedience Run-Throughs have been discontinued due to lack of participation. 

Conformation Run-Throughs

Conformation Handling Class

Come and learn tricks of the trade for handling your dog in the conformation ring from handler Vicki Barker.  Limited to 8 dogs/handlers.

Agility

We offer a full spectrum of indoor, year-around agility classes, for fun or competition. Agility is a fast-paced sport where the dog and handler negotiate a course of jumps, tunnels and various obstacles. The six-week puppy agility class is for dogs under one year of age.  

Instructor approval required.  Limited number of spaces available.  Dogs must have been through Intermediate obedience classes (or equivalent), have a reliable "come" and "stay", and must be well-mannered around other dogs.
